My brain really, REALLY, likes to have everything organized and planned and systems put into place for future contingencies both big and small. I think I've been this way all my life but it has only become more obvious to me after I retired and suddenly didn't have any systems to keep my brain occupied.
My brain has tried to compensate by setting up systems for every little thing and then discarding them the instant they don't work. It has been a struggle in some aspects, but now that I am aware of it, I am trying not to be such a perfectionist about everything.
One area I have been struggling with is how I want to organize my postcards and how I want to share them online. I've gone through so many variations, built many different websites and used different tools, organized and reorganized the physical cards into categories and I would catch myself trying to make everything future proof. I've been fighting myself but I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I am going to blog here about whatever cards I feel like talking about. Under the gallery section is a link to my SmugMug galleries that will have the postcard fronts and the trade cards. And the postcard galleries will have a link over to the Softr database where I am slowly entering the details of the cards. That may sound like overkill for a beginning postcard collector but these things I am doing mostly for myself. I want to be able to see the fronts of my cards quickly so it made sense to me to set up a gallery, and when I enter the information into the database I learn things about the cards along the way. Most importantly, I am not 100% happy with the design of these things but I am trudging forward and that is the biggest accomplishment of all.
F.Y.I.: Today I learned that R.F.D. Route # ___ on an address stands for Rural Free Delivery and was the system the post office used to expand out from the city centers to deliver mail along rural routes. See, learning new things is cool.
